The Super Grip NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals will mark a significant step forward for NHRA with the launch of PlayNHRA, an innovative new initiative that will provide fans opportunities to engage in fantasy games, gaming, and betting for the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series.

As part of PlayNHRA, NHRA’s partnerships with leading sports books and fantasy sports providers will enable fans to sign up for free and legally wager on national events and other outcomes in the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series.

To that end, Tricky Tipster, NHRA’s longtime handicapper, has deferred to the experts at Alt Sports Data, who have set the lines for this week’s event at Bristol Dragway and have labeled Justin Ashley, Austin Prock, Dallas Glenn, and Gaige Herrera as the favorites in Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock, and Pro Stock Motorcycle.

(NXTbets' Expert Analysis: NXTbets' comprehensive NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals 2024 Best Bets article is packed with expert insights, value picks, in-depth analysis, and odds of head-to-head wagers to help you navigate the odds and make informed wagers on all the weekend's premier races.)

Below are the opening odds as provided by Alt Sports Data.

(Note: In American sports betting, odds are typically expressed with a plus (+) or minus (–) symbol followed by a number. For example, +200 signifies the amount a bettor could win if wagering $100. If the bet works out, the player would receive a total payout of $300 ($200 profit + $100 initial stake.)

TOP FUEL

With back-to-back Bristol wins and the championship lead, it's no surprise that Justin Ashley is listed as the favorite in Top Fuel this week. Ashley also won last year's Epping final, which was contested at Bristol Dragway. Doug Kalitta is also ranked as one of the favorites after winning last week's NHRA New England Nationals, and while four-time world champion Steve Torrence hasn't won yet this season, the Capco Contractors team has made strides recently, including a win in the Mission #2Fast2Tasty NHRA Challenge in Epping.

FUNNY CAR

Austin Prock has been fantastic this season in Funny Car with a pair of wins and five low qualifying efforts to his credit, which makes him this week's favorite. Prock rates a slim edge over his teammate, John Force, who swept both the Mission Challenge and Sunday's final rounds in Epping. Technically, Bristol is a home race for Matt Hagan, and he's got a win here in 2015, which also helps improve his spot in the standings.

PRO STOCK

Championship points leader Dallas Glenn is listed as the Bristol favorite, although he is only a slight favorite against reigning and six-time champ Erica Enders and Greg Anderson. These three drivers have combined for five wins so far this season. Troy Coughlin Jr., fresh off a win last week in Epping, is also listed among the favorites.

PRO STOCK MOTORCYCLE

Gaige Herrera hasn't lost a race since September's Reading event, which explains why he's a huge favorite to win this weekend in Bristol. Herrera has a chance to make history with his ninth straight win, breaking a tie with the late Dave Schultz. Aside from Herrera, six-time champ Matt Smith and recent Chicago finalist Chase Van Sant are among the favorites.
