Justin Ashley, Kyle Koretsky, and Mason McGaha finalists for rookie of the year
Three first-year NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series drivers were announced by NHRA officials as the eligible candidates for the 2020 NHRA Rookie of the Year award.
The nation’s leading auto racing journalists select the winner through a voting system, which is currently in progress, based on the following criteria: number of events competed in, performance on and off the racetrack, participation in NHRA promotions and relationships with fans, sponsors and media.
The candidates, all of them second-generation racers, for the prestigious award in 2020 are, in alphabetical order:
Justin Ashley, Top Fuel
Ashley is a second-generation NHRA racer, the son of former Funny Car and Pro Mod racer Mike Ashley. He earned his first career NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series event win in his Strutmasters.com/Manscaped dragster at the Lucas Oil NHRA Summernationals at Indianapolis.
Kyle Koretsky, Pro Stock
In his premiere season of the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series, Koretsky raced his way to two quarterfinal appearances in the Pro Stock division in his NitroFish Camaro. He is also a second-generation racer; father Kenny competed in both Top Fuel and Pro Stock.
Mason McGaha, Pro Stock
Son of Pro Stock driver Chris McGaha, Mason McGaha qualified for the prestigious Denso Spark Plugs NHRA U.S. Nationals in the family-run Harlow Sammons Camaro. He went on to beat his dad in the opening round of the event en route to a semifinal finish.
The award will be presented to the winner at the Dodge NHRA Finals presented by Pennzoil next weekend in Las Vegas.
