Magic Dry Organic Absorbent NHRA Northwest Nationals Saturday preview
It’s the final day of qualifying at the Magic Dry Organic Absorbent NHRA Northwest Nationals and the penultimate day of the famed Western Swing. Two more qualifying sessions are on tap today, at 1:30 and 4:30 p.m. Pacific time to set the fields for Sunday’s final eliminations.
Mike Salinas grabbed the Top Fuel pole Friday with a 3.694, just shy of the 3.686 track record set two years ago by Antron Brown. Brittany Force holds the No. 2 spot at 3.702 and points leader and reigning world champ Steve Torrence at 3.705. The battle for the No. 1 spot will be fevered as a potential s bye awaits that driver.
Bob Tasca III led a quick opening day in Funny Car with a 3.871, one of six 3.8-second elapsed times charted in the first two sessions. He’d love to hold onto the top spot, which would be his first of the season and the first for his new Mustang body. Behind him challenging for that top spot are world champ J.R. Todd, Matt Hagan, John Force, Shawn Langdon, and Ron Capps.
Like Tasca, if Jeg Coughlin Jr. can hold onto the top spot in Pro Stock, it will be his first of the season in the JEGS.com Camaro. He led a top-three sweep by the Elite Motorsports team, with Alex Laughlin and Eric Enders nipping at his heels. Eighteen cars are shooting for the 16-car field so there will be some qualifying drama come Q4,
