Just like in Top Fuel, there was a major upset in the first round of Funny Car as Jeff Diehl made it out of the opening stanza at the expense of Robert Hight and Shawn Langdon. Low qualifier Tim Wilkerson also advanced with a strong 3.891.

It seems to happen at every Four-Wide Nationals where an upstart advances into out of the first round, and this year it’s Terry Totten in Top Fuel, who finished behind Clay Millican but ahead of Leah Pritchett and Austin Prock.

Deric Kramer enjoyed a breakout season in Pro Stock in 2018. He plans to learn from the successes, and the failures, in his second full tour.

With 10 four-wide races in the history books and final eliminations for No. 11 on tap today, some trends have emerged. For example, Steve Torrence and Andrew Hines are both really good at it but Eddie Krawiec could use a little final-round luck.
