Shumake’s Top Fueler on display this week at famed Ohio science center
A unique blend of science, technology, and speed is on display this week at the Center of Science and Industry (COSI) in Columbus, Ohio, where Travis Shumake’s Top Fuel dragster has sped into the museum’s iconic Atrium, presented by CAS, a global leader in scientific information solutions and a division of the American Chemical Society. COSI, which is ranked No. 1 on USA Today’s list of science centers, is one of Ohio’s top tourist attractions and the perfect location for this first-of-its-kind display.
The dragster, which left Phoenix with top speed of eliminations honors at more than 330 mph, has been greeting guests in the COSI atrium to highlight how chemistry, engineering, color, and material science all come together in the pursuit of high performance and safety in modern motorsports.
“Ohio is home to some of racing's biggest suppliers and several of my longest-running partners like Kroger, Procter & Gamble, Sheetz, and, of course, CAS,” explained Shumake.
A live installation of the dragster wrap took place at COSI last week, offering visitors an inside look at the car’s preparation for display with signage and displays explaining several of the scientific advancements that keep Shumake safe and at full speed on the track.
“At CAS, we are passionate about advancing scientific understanding in ways that inspire curiosity,” said Dr. Michael Dennis, vice president at CAS. “Bringing Travis’s Top Fuel dragster into the Color of Science exhibit is a dynamic way to show how chemistry, engineering, and creativity drive innovation — both on and off the racetrack.”
The exhibit builds momentum ahead of the upcoming NHRA Summit Racing Equipment Nationals in Norwalk, June 27–29.
