Lucas Oil Series winners shined on a rainy weekend in Pomona

With Mission Foods Drag Racing Series action stopped by persistent rain, the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series produced the only winners at the In-N-Out Burger NHRA Finals, completing their action on Thursday, and led by Super Comp winner Chad Webber, whose victory earned him the world championship.

With Mission Foods Drag Racing Series action stopped by persistent rain, the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series produced the only winners at the In-N-Out Burger NHRA Finals, completing their action on Thursday.

Jason Grima, a former Australian Pro Stock champion and a previous two-time runner-up in NHRA Comp action, scored his first career NHRA national event win when he defeated first-time finalist Melissa Murphy with a (-.59) 6.99 blast in the final round. [video]

John Calvert has now won five NHRA national events, including four in Pomona after stopping Ryan McClanahan in the Super Stock final round. Calvert ran right on his 8.48 dial to win by .001-second. [video]

Leo Glasbrenner won his 13th career event by stopping reigning Stock world champion Joe Sorensen in the Stock final. Glasbrenner used a 9.447 on his 9.34 dial to win by five-thousandths. [video]

In a clutch performance, Chad Webber did exactly what he needed to do in Pomona to win the Super Comp season championship, which was to win the event. After surrendering a .004 to .016 holeshot to Doug Johnson, Webber raced to an 8.911 to clinch the win and the title when Johnson broke out by .008-second. [video]

Ed DeStaute, one of Super Gas racing’s longest-tenured racers, ended a 14-year national event win drought with his victory at the season finale, tying a brilliant .001 reaction time to a 9.934 to turn on the win light after two-time tour winner Jerry Denton took too much stripe and broke out with a 9.84. [video]

The points lead in Right Trailers Top Dragster changed hands three times during eliminations before it finally fell with Casey Plaizier, who won the final and the championship on a single after teammate Aaron Steinkey reportedly broke. [video]

Appearing in his third final round of the season, Bryan Warr locked up a Top 10 finish in Right Trailers Top Sportsman when he defeated Ed Olpin in the final round. Warr didn’t make it to the finish line under power but turned on the win light after Olpin broke out. [video]

Top Alcohol racing in both classes only completed one round on Thursday.

First-round winners in Top Alcohol Dragster were Joey Severance, Jon Bradford, Jamie Noonan, Melanie Johnson, Jackie Fricke, Angelle Sampey, Cheyne Phillips, and Shaunda Blinzler.

First-round winners in Top Alcohol Funny Car were Shane Westerfield, Christine Foster, Annie Whiteley, Chris Foster, Sean Bellemeur, and Maddi Gordon.
