Justin Lamb joined exclusive company on Sunday in Las Vegas by clinching his sixth NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series world title. Needing nothing less than a victory in order to pass incoming leader and defending Super Stock champ Jimmy Hidalgo Jr., Lamb delivered with a pair of victories in Super Stock and Stock eliminator.

Lamb, wo won both the Super Stock and Stock titles in 2017 and also scored championships in 2013, 2015, and 2018, entered the final Pacific Division Lucas Oil Series event of the season trailing Hidalgo by 52 points, meaning nothing less than a victory would deliver a title. Lamb advanced to the final round, where he defeated Division 4’s Craig Gualtiere to lock up the title. For good measure, Lamb also defeated past world champion Jody Lang in the Stock final, setting up a possible Top 10 finish.

“What an unbelievable day. It took everything; every bit of energy and effort to get this done and be able to say, ‘We are six-time world champions,’ " Lamb wrote on his Facebook page. “It wasn’t just the driver. It was every single person who rallied around us with unwavering encouragement, incredible support, and the belief that it was possible. From those who loaned a car here and there to those on the home front who took calls late at night to help everyone in between.

“Doubling up with wins in Stock and Super Stock at our home track made it that much sweeter, but this one was really special. Thank you to everyone involved in making this championship happen. We couldn’t have done it without you.”

The championship capped another stellar season for Lamb, who has four wins in six final rounds in Super Stock to go with three additional wins in Stock.

Lamb is the latest Lucas Oil Series driver to clinch a title, joining Sean Bellemeur (Top Alcohol Funny Car) and Bubba Linke (Stock). The title in Top Alcohol Dragster, Comp, Super Comp, Super Gas, Right Trailers Top Sportsman, and Right Trailers Top Dragster will all be decided at the final event of the season, the In-N-Out Burger NHRA Finals in Pomona.

The race for the Top Alcohol Dragster title is between defending champ and incoming leader Shawn Cowie and five-time world champ Joey Severance, who much go deep into eliminations to have a shot at a sixth title.

In Comp, Jeff Taylor took over the lead with a victory in Las Vegas. Taylor can win his fifth title if he can hold off Jeff Lane, who must either advance to the final round or win in Pomona, depending on final car count.

In Super Comp, Kris Whitfield remains the leader, and he’s being pursued by Chad Webber, who must also make a deep run into eliminations in Pomona in order to have a chance.

There are five drivers in the running for the title in Super Gas, including current leader JJ Brock, Bo Butner, defending champ Val Torres Sr., Evan Kowalski, and Phil Unruh. There is a good chance that this battle won’t be decided until Sunday afternoon.

In Right Trailers Top Sportsman, Darian Boesch is the leader, but he’s going to have to sweat out a challenge from David Cook and Dan Lafferty, who won last weekend’s event in Las Vegas. Lafferty has only attended two national events this season, so any points he scores in Pomona will be added to his total.

The race for the Right Trailers Top Dragster title is also going down to the wire, with Boesch leading Jessica Eastburn by just two points coming into Pomona. Casey Plazier is also in the mix for the Top Dragster crown.
