Denso NHRA Sonoma Nationals presented by PowerEdge Friday preview
The NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series concludes the two-race Western Swing with a stop at Sonoma Raceway for the Denso NHRA Sonoma Nationals presented by PowerEdge.
The event is No. 12 of 20 races this year in the NHRA Mission Foods Pro series, and it will include Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock, and Pro Stock Motorcycle, along with the GETTRX NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle All-Star NHRA Callout, as well as five NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series classes.
Saturday’s highlights will also include the latest round of the Mission #2Fast2Tasty NHRA Challenge of the season, which will pit the semifinal finishers from the recent Seattle event in a race for bonus cash and additional points. These rounds are run concurrently with Saturday qualifying.
The Pro Stock Motorcycle category will also feature the GETTRX All-Star Pro Stock Callout for the top eight riders based on yearlong qualifying results. The field will include world champs Gaige Herrera and Matt Smith, along with Richard Gadson, Angie Smith, John Hall, Chase Van Sant, and Jianna Evaristo.
In Top Fuel, the championship lead changed hands last week when Shawn Langdon won in Seattle. Langdon passed Tony Stewart, who had been the leader after a strong start to the 2025 season. Counting Sonoma, there are just three events remaining until the regular-season champion is crowned and the points are reset for the Countdown to the Championship.
Austin Prock holds a sizable 140-point advantage over teammate Jack Beckman in Funny Car, with Seattle champ Matt Hagan moving to third, just 166 points back. Hagan became the seventh different winner in 11 events this season.
The battle for the top spot in Pro Stock is between KB Titan Racing teammates Dallas Glenn and Greg Anderson, who have separated themselves from the rest of the field. Glenn, after a win in Seattle, is 39 points clear of six-time champ Anderson.
In Pro Stock Motorcycle, two-time and reigning champ Herrera leads the way with a 138-point advantage over his teammate, Richard Gadson, while six-time champ Matt Smith is third, 143 points behind.
