Cowie, Bellemeur, Lane lead Sportsman winners at Las Vegas 4-Wide Nationals
In addition to wild action in the Mission Foods Drag Racing Series at the NHRA 4-Wide Nationals, nine champions were crowned in Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series competition at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Shawn Cowie won the spring Las Vegas event for the fourth time in Top Alcohol Dragster and for the second time in the four-wide format, where his stout 5.20 defeated Prescott Dean, Jacqueline Fricke, and Mike Coughlin. The win was the 24th for Cowie, who last won the four-wide race in 2021, after winning it two-wide in 2010 and ’11. [video]
Three-time world champ Sean Bellemeur scored his fourth four-wide win in Top Alcohol Funny Car competition but his first at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway when he edged rookie phenom Maddi Gordon by just .0008-second as both finished ahead of Winternationals winner Brian Hough and Hunter Jones. Bellemeur also has won six times in two-wide action in Las Vegas. Including last year’s fall event. [video]
Cody Lane scored his ninth career win and his fourth in Comp with a (-.53) 8.4 blast to defeat Ryan Priddy’s better-but-later (-.60) 6.57. Grant Singer picked up his first NHRA national event Wally following a final-round win over world champ Don Keen in the Super Stock final. Singer ran 9.063 on his 9.06 dial to overcome Keen’s nearly perfect .004 light. [video]
Reigning world champ Kyle Rizzoli continued his torrid pace in 2024 with a win in Stock Eliminator. Rizzoli picked up his 15th title after Joe Sorensen broke out in the all-Camaro final round. [video]
