Cali Neff collects big payday in Rooftec Comp Clash at Toyota U.S. Nationals
The Rooftec Comp Clash was created by class mainstay Rodger Brogdon to perpetuate the class and bring attention to one of the sport’s most innovative categories, and with a final round pitting two rising female star who are not just both second-generation female racers but teammates as well, the racing lived up to the billing.
Cali Neff, daughter of five-time national event winner Clint Neff, defeated Kayla Mozeris, daughter of class veteran Joe Mozeris — both of them past national event winners — to collect the win and the $30,000 playoff plus bonuses.
After nearly identical reaction times, Neff wheeled the Neff Self & Neff Racing J/DA to a (-.56) 7.65 to defeat Mozeris’ (-.53) 7.49.
"I never thought this would ever happen," said an emotional Neff at the top end. "Honestly, either way, we were going to be happy and we didn't care, win or lose, because we're teammates. That was incredible. I have no words."
Neff took down defending Comp Clash champ Chase Williams in the opening stanza, then took out Scott Linder and three-time U.S. Nationals runner-up Rick Brown to reach the final.
Mozeris worked her way to the final round by defeating her car owner, Clint Neff, in round one, then raced her way past Adam Hickey and Jason Grima in the next two rounds, accumulating .11-second in Competition Index Control penalty.
