Former NHRA Top Fuel world champ Dick LaHaie and motorcycle drag racing legends Terry Vance and Byron Hines were inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in Daytona Beach, Fla., March 8.

In a long and distinguished career in drag racing, the late LaHaie proved himself of championship caliber of numerous fronts, as an NHRA Top Fuel world champion as a driver in 1987 and as a two-time championship crew chief for Scott Kalitta (1994-95) and for Larry Dixon (2002-03).  LaHaie, who worked side by side with his daughter, Kim, and son Jeff in the 1980s, was responsible for countless national event wins in a fuel-racing career that spanned more than 40 years. LaHaie passed away in December 2018.

Kim and Jeff LaHaie, fourth from left and right, respectively, children of the late Dick LaHaie, represented their father at his induction. Also on hand were, from left, NHRA's John Baadilla, Ned Walliser, and Mike Rau; hall of fame crew chief Tim Richards, who is married to Kim; NHRA legend Don "the Snake" Prudhomme; and NHRA's Glen Cromwell and John Siragusa,

In 1979, Southern California motorcycle drag racers Vance and Hines combined their riding abilities, business acumen, and technical know-how to found Vance & Hines, developing and producing high-performance parts for the motorcycle industry. Both ended up being race-winning riders and Hines’ two sons, Matt and Andrew, continued the legacy as both went on to become NHRA world champions.

Byron Hines and Terry Vance, center, were also congratulated by the NHRA team, including Evan Jonat, second from left.
