Jasmine Salinas

In addition to the Camping World Drag Racing Series action taking place at Texas Motorplex, nine champions were also crowned in Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series competition at the Texas NHRA FallNationals.

Jasmine Salinas, who won the Gatornationals earlier this season, won her second career title in the Pep Boys/Scrappers Racing entry, defeating third-generation alcohol racer Madison Payne in the Top Alcohol Dragster final round, 5.25 to 5.26. It was just the ninth all-female Top Alcohol Dragster final in history and the second for Salinas, whose breakthrough win in Gainesville came over Julie Nataas. [video]

Reigning Top Alcohol Funny Car world champ Sean Bellemeur recorded his milestone 30th career win and his fourth of the season, driving the Bartone Bros./Hussey Performance Camaro to a wire-to-wire victory over Brainerd champ Kyle Smith, 5.45 to 5.49. [video]

Adam Hickey went back-to-back in Comp, following his win the previous weekend in St. Louis with another score in Dallas, driving his B/DA to an easy final-round win after fellow Louisianan Scott Cashio fouled in his A/SMA Cobalt. [video]

For the third time in the last five years, Brandon Bakies visited the winner’s circle at the Texas Motorplex. Bakies, a winner in 2018-19,  claimed the Super Stock title in his SAM Tech COPO Camaro by beating third-generation racer Aydan Patterson in a heads-up run, 9.381 to 9.515. [video]

John Brimer is now a six-time NHRA national event winner and half of them have come in Dallas after he defeated Randi Lyn Shipp in the Stock final. Brimer drove to an 8.881 on his 8.86 dial after Shipp broke out by three-hundredths. [video]

Two-time world champ Austin Williams collected career win No. 19 – nine of which have come in Super Comp – by just .002-second over Kyle Secrest, running 8.919 to beat Secrest’s holeshot-aided 8.926. Williams, who also has nine wins in Stock, lives just a few miles from the track where he has now won three times, including last year, when he recorded his first win in Super Gas. [video]

Phil Unruh won the all-Kansas Super Gas final in his ’67 Camaro for career win No. 7, two of which have come at Texas Motorplex. Unruh nailed a clutch .006 reaction time in the final and collected the win when final-round opponent Heidi Robison took too much stripe and broke out with a 9.889. Unruh’s win was his first in Super Gas after previous victories in Super Stock (3), Top Dragster (2), and Super Street (1). [video]

Wayne Johnson joined the list of first-time NHRA winners in Top Dragster presented by Vortech Superchargers when he beat Robert Cool in the final round. Johnson was nearly unbeatable with a .009 light and a 6.269 on his 6.29 dial. [video]

Jimmy Lewis, the reigning world champion in Top Sportsman presented by Vortech Superchargers, won his 14th national event after David Cuadra fouled in the final round. Lewis now has five wins in Dallas including back-to-back Top Sportsman titles in 2021-22. [video]
