Another day of action-packed racing is in store today at “the Ballagio of Dragstrips,” zMAX Dragway, to set the fields for Sunday’s final eliminations at the second event of the Camping World Drag Racing Series Countdown to the Championship.

Brittany Force will almost undoubtedly score her eighth straight no. 1 qualifying berth in Top Fuel after a sizzling 3.66 Friday night under conditions that probably won’t be bettered today, but then again she has David Grubnic turning the wrenches and Grubnic goes for the throat on every run.

Points leader Steve Torrence, who is just nine points ahead of Force, will look to recover from an aborted Friday night pass that left him just 14th in the field. There’s a whole lot of good runs stacked behind Force’s leading pass with Clay Millican and Mike Salinas at 3,708 and 3.709.

With 17 cars making passes Friday, the slower teams will be fighting to keep their place in the field come Saturday evening.

Force’s father, John, likewise leads the Funny Car field as he did two races ago in Indianapolis. The duo shared the winner’s stage not long ago in Topeka so the Force family is definitely firing on all cylinders.

Force’s teammate Robert Hight sits second at 3.878, just a thousandth of a second ahead of Cruz Pedregon, and eight drivers qualified in the three-second zone, making for a tight pack atop the field.

Aaron Stanfield is hoping to hold onto his Friday lead in pro Stock which would earn the second-generation factory hot rod driver the first No. 1 of his short but brilliant career.

He’ll have to fight off world champ Erica Enders and hometown favorite Greg Anderson to pull off the feat and three of them are spread out over just .005-second.

Steve Johnson, hot off of his Countdown-opening win in Reading last weekend, maintained that momentum by pushing his Suzuki to the top of the Pro Stock Motorcycle field by more than four-hundredths of a second.

Angelle Sampey sits second on the Vance & Hines Suzuki and is trailed by the Matt Smith Racing trio of Matt and Angie Smith and Scotty Pollacheck.

You can catch the action all weekend on FOX Sports 1 and NHRA.tv.
