Reigning NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Top Alcohol Dragster champion Megan Meyer made the first 5.0-second pass in class history, a 5.097, during the first round of eliminations at the Denso Spark Plugs NHRA U.S. Nationals.
Paired with Friday’s JEGS Allstars champ Jackie Fricke, Meyer raced her way into the history books and broke the 13-year-old class record of 5.103 set by multi-time world champ Bill Reichert at the Houston event in 2007.
Many had flirted with breaking Reichert’s record over the years, including Meyer’s teammate, Julie Nataas, who ran 5.115 at the 2017 Auto Club NHRA Finals, and Meyer herself, who ran 5.118 in Houston last year.
