National Dragster Senior Editor Kevin McKenna broke the news Tuesday afternoon that two-time Top Alcohol Funny Car champion Jonnie Lindberg would be taking over the driving of Jim Head’s Funny Car for 2017. NHRA reporters Amanda Busick and Lewis Bloom caught up with the Swedish native at his shop in Indianapolis to talk about his move to nitro Funny Car.

Lindberg, a native of Sweden, has had success racing in Top Alcohol Funny Car on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean, scoring back to back championships in 2015 and 2016. He earned his Funny Car license in Tim Wilkerson’s race car after the fall Vegas event in early November of last year.

Veteran racer and tuner Jim Head gave up the driving seat at the end of 2012 to his son Chad Head. Chad Head raced in 83 events with four final-round appearances. Car owner Jim Head has won races in both Top Fuel and Funny Car and is one of four drivers to have wins at the U.S. Nationals in both Top Fuel and Funny Car.
