Young leukemia patient's dream to be a race car driver fulfilled in Sonoma
Thanks to the generosity of several members of the NHRA racing community, 7-year-old leukemia patient Guy Brizzee was able to live out his dream of becoming a race car driver at the Toyota NHRA Sonoma Nationals.
Terry Chandler, who supports the Make-A-Wish Don Schumacher Racing Funny Car, worked with 1981 NHRA Top Fuel world champion Jeb Allen, a successful developer and supporter of Make-A-Wish in Northern California; two-time and reigning Top Fuel world championship Antron Brown, whose three children race Jr. Dragsters; and Brad Mason, the assistant crew chief on Brown’s Matco dragster, to make Brizzee's dream come true.
After some instruction from Brown, who served as Brizzee’s driving mentor and crew chief, Brizzee got to drive down the racetrack at Sonoma Raceway behind the wheel of the Jr. Dragster normally wheeled by Mason’s daughter Kylie, which was transported to Sonoma just for the special occasion.
