This season, Jeff Strickland became only the second driver in NHRA history to win multiple championships in a single season, capturing the titles in Stock and Top Dragster. The only driver prior to win multiple championships was Scotty Richardson in 1994, who accomplished the feat in Super Comp and Super Gas.

Strickland locked up the Top Dragster championship at the final Division 7 Lucas Oil Series race at Las Vegas. The Stock championship was decided at the Auto Club NHRA Finals in Pomona.

In both circumstances Strickland had to race the driver that would eventually finish second in the championship, Matt Driskell in Top Dragster in Las Vegas and Brad Burton in Stock in Pomona.

To win one NHRA Lucas Series Championship is impressive enough but to score two in the same season is simply epic, especially considering the fact that the cars, a Top Dragster and a COPO Camaro, could not be more different to race.
