McClelland among 2016 Motorsports Hall of Fame of America inductees
Television personality and announcer Dave McClelland, the longtime former Voice of the NHRA, will be one of seven motorsports figures inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America later this year.
In addition to McClelland, the 2016 class of inductees includes AMA dirt-track motorcycle racer Everett Brashear, NASCAR team owner Richard Childress, former land-speed record holder Gary Gabelich, Indy and NASCAR team owner Chip Ganassi, former IndyCar driver and TV personality Sam Posey, and former Indy 500 winner and sprint-car champ Bob Sweikert. Collectively, the illustrious group represents motorcycles, stock cars, sports cars, land-speed records, drag boat records, drag racing, and open-wheel racing. They will be enshrined at the 28th annual Induction Ceremony presented by Bridgestone June 29 at Daytona Int'l Speedway, the new home of the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America.
McClelland is one of the most legendary voices in all of motorsports and certainly in the history of drag racing. But his face is very recognizable, too, thanks to his years of NHRA-related work on ESPN, Speed, and The Nashville Network. McClelland’s background also includes a stint as a racetrack executive followed by a successful run as NHRA publicity and public relations director. He has been recognized with a number of awards, including the 2013 Robert E. Petersen Lifetime Achievement Award, which is presented annually to pioneers in the hot rod and restoration industry.
Previous inductees to the hall in the drag racing category include Don Garlits, John Force, Shirley Muldowney, Tom McEwen, Ed McCulloch, Bob Glidden, Kenny Bernstein, Joe Amato, Connie Kalitta, Chris Karamesines, Bill Jenkins, Tommy Ivo, Raymond Beadle, Dale Armstrong, Eddie Hill, Art and Jack Chrisman, Keith Black, Ed Donovan, and C.J. Hart.
