Denso NHRA Sonoma Nationals Saturday preview
Friday’s opening day of pro qualifying for the Denso NHRA Sonoma Nationals presented by Power Edge produced several memorable performances including a 3.71 second run by provisional low qualifier Doug Kaltta and a thrilling under the lights 3.84 by provisional Funny Car top qualifier Jordan Vandergriff.
The real surprise, however, came in Pro Stock where part-time racer Chris Vang leads the 16 car field with a 6.48, a career best in his Prestige Camaro.
All three low qualifiers expect that their runs could be challenged on Saturday as cool weather is expected for the final two qualifying sessions.
Saturday's packed schedule will also feature the latest round of the Mission Foods #2Fast2Tasty Challenge with racers in Top Fuel, Funny Car, and Pro Stock vying for additional points and prize money.
In Top Fuel, the field will include Norwalk finalists Maddi Gordon and Antron Brown along with Clay Millican and championship leader Shawn Langdon.
In Funny Car, the field will consist of Jack Beckman, Austin Prock, Ron Capps, and Alexis Dejoria while Aaron Stanfield, Matt Hartford, Kenny Delco, and Dallas Glenn will battle for the Pro Stock title.
The Pro Stock Motorcycle class won’t feature a traditional eliminator in Sonoma, but they will be showcased with the GETTRX Pro Stock Motorcycle Allstar Callout, a special big money invitational event that will take place on Saturday. The eight riders in the field include Gaige Herrera, Richard Gadson, Matt Smith, Angie Smith, John Hall, Jianna Evaristo, Chase Van Sant, and Steve Johnson, all of whom have won at least one race in Pro Stock Motorcycle competition.
The schedule for the day also includes the continuation of eliminations in Lucas Oil Drag Racing series categories; Comp, Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, Right Trailers Top Dragster and Top Sportsman.
