Six more racers punch their tickets to Countdown to the Championship playoffs
As a result of competition at the Denso NHRA Sonoma Nationals presented by PowerEdge, six more drivers have locked in their positions in the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series Countdown to the Championship playoffs.
Justin Ashley, Doug Kalitta, and Antron Brown in Top Fuel, Austin Prock in Funny Car, and Angie Smith and John Hall in Pro Stock Motorcycle are the latest to punch their tickets for the six-race, end-of-season race to the championships.
Just the two races — the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals and the Cornwell Quality Tools NHRA U.S. Nationals — remain in the NHRA regular season that will set the combatants for the six-race Countdown playoffs. Top Fuel, Funny Car, and Pro Stock will be contested at both events, while Pro Stock Motorcycle will not compete at the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals.
Drivers qualify for the Countdown in two ways: by finishing in the Top 10 of points at the conclusion of the U.S. Nationals or by attending every race of the regular season and making at least the minimum number of required qualifying attempts at those events.
