Muckleshoot Casino Resort NHRA Northwest Nationals Friday preview
Fans attending the Muckleshoot Casino Resort NHRA Northwest Nationals this weekend are in for a different experience at Pacific Raceways with a format highlighted by a lone dramatic nitro nighttime session Friday, followed by a jam-packed Saturday with three nitro qualifying sessions.
Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle will run two sessions of each, scheduled for 6:40 and 8:15 p.m. Friday, followed by the nitro session at 9:15 p.m.
After last year’s thrilling first-ever night session at the event, this year’s encore will be even more memorable thanks to the Deecell Power Systems “After Dark Low Qualifier” bonus that will go to the low qualifiers of each class. The low qualifiers in Top Fuel and Funny Car will each earn $4,000, the Pro Stock low qualifier will get $2,500, and the top qualifier on Friday night in Pro Stock Motorcycle earns $1,500. The four Deecell “After Dark Low Qualifier” winners will also take part in an autograph session at 11 a.m. PT on Saturday at the Deecell display.
Leading the Top Fuel points at midseason is motorsports legend and 2024 NHRA Rookie of the Year Tony Stewart, who will try to defend that lead with four races to go in the regular season. Others to watch include Shawn Langdon and Justin Ashley, who has won back-to-back races, as well as two-time world champ Brittany Force and reigning and four-time world champion Antron Brown.
Defending Funny Car world champ Prock continues to impress with four event wins — including the last two — and the points lead. The star-studded class also includes his John Force Racing teammate, Jack Beckman, points rival Paul Lee, and past world champs Matt Hagan, Ron Capps, and J.R. Todd.
The Pro Stock ranks have been dominated this season by the KB Titan Racing powerhouse, as reigning champ and points leader Greg Anderson and area native Dallas Glenn have combined for seven wins. If the Elite Motorsports team is going to work its way back into contention, this would be the time to shine.
Pro Stock Motorcycle is led by reigning champ Herrera, who has three wins in 2025, six-time champ Matt Smith is second, while Herrera’s teammate, Richard Gadson, is third. Others to watch will be John Hall, who comes in hot after his win in Norwalk, Angie Smith, and defending event champ Chase Van Sant.
