Ageless Irvin Johns leads list of JEGS SPORTSnationals champions
At age 80, Irvin Johns became NHRA’s oldest national event winner when he drove to the Super Stock title at the JEGS NHRA SPORTSnationals at National Trail Raceway.
Johns, who previously held the record at age 79 following last year’s victory in Chicago, defeated 2022 world champ Peter D’Agnolo in the final round.
Johns was joined in the National Trail Raceway winner’s circle by Rodger Brogdon (Comp), Caleb McFarland (Stock), Jacob Smith (Super Comp), Harold Brewer (Super Gas), Damien Hazelton (Super Street), Bill Yates (Right Trailers Top Sportsman), and Anthony Bertozzi (Right Trailers Top Dragster).
Designed as a showcase for racers in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, the JEGS NHRA SPORTSnationals offers a purse in excess of $350,000 including more than $100,000 in contingency offerings. The event is part of a massive doubleheader weekend that also features a popular Division 3 Regional event, to be held on July 12-13, making it one of the biggest weekends for NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series competitors.
