Seven Sportsman champs crowned in Lucas Oil Series action at Sonoma Nationals

Seven champions were crowned in NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series competition at the Denso NHRA Sonoma Nationals at Sonoma Raceway, including Kenny Snow, who scored his first career win in Super Street.

Seven champions were crowned in NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series competition at the Denso NHRA Sonoma Nationals at Sonoma Raceway.

One week after winning in Seattle, Justin Lamb scored again in Sonoma when he drove to the Super Stock title, winning his 31st NHRA Wally. Lamb ran right on his 8.97 dial in the final to stop Trey Vetter. [video]

Leo Glasbrenner won for the 11th time after wheeling his Camaro to the Sonoma Stock title. Glasbrenner won the final round after Pro Stock ace Bo Butner fouled behind the wheel of the DeFrank family’s Camaro. [video]

Parker Theobald kept his perfect national event final-round record intact, winning in his third straight money-round appearance in the Super Comp final. Theobald, now 3-0 in title bashes, was .006 on the Tree while opponent Matt Woodard had a competitive .012 light in a race in which both ran 8.92, making for a margin of victory of just .006-second for Theobald. Dennis Paz, who reached two finals in Sonoma, came away with the victory in Super Gas in his '41 Willys, putting together a spectacular package consisting of a .003 light and a 10.905 to defeat Evan Kowalski. Paz had previously been to four finals before this event without a win. [video]

Kenny Snow chilled the Sonoma Super Street field with his ’69 Chevelle, collecting his first career win with a final-round victory over low qualifier Dennis Paz, 10.92 to 10.94, ending Super Gas winner Paz’s bid for a double. [video]

Don London claimed his first victory in the Right Trailers Top Dragster class with a final-round performance against Chris Thode that included a .007 light and a 6.172 on his 6.14 dial. [video]

Ted Kellner won his first national event in Super Gas in 1990 and is still a force in Right Trailers Top Sportsman. Kellner earned career win No. 4 by just .002-second in the final round against Ken Ratzloff. [video]
