The longest-running major racing event in the Northwest, the Ignitor Opener presented by The Blower Shop, returns to Firebird Raceway May 6-7. Firebird’s granddaddy event originated in 1971, a staple in Idaho’s greater Treasure Valley for 52 years.

The Ignitor will mark the second of two Firebird stops in the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Series. 250-mph AA/Funny Cars will headline the Stinker Stores Nitro Knockout. The field will be led by reigning national champion Bobby Cottrell. Driving the Austin & O’Brien Northwest Hitter Camaro, the team went undefeated at Firebird last season, winning both the Ignitor and Nightfire events.

In addition, the race will also boast the richest bracket tournament in Ignitor history. Gold Cup action will include two separate days of racing in Super Pro, Pro, Pro Comp, Sled/Bike and Sportsman.

Funny Car qualifying is set for noon, 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Saturday followed by Nitro finals at high noon on Sunday.

Sunday, May 7, is Military Appreciation Day offering all veterans and active personnel free admission to all the championship finals. Kids 15 and younger are admitted at no charge during the Ignitor race weekend (with an adult).
