Nightfire Nationals

Firebird Raceway played host to the 52nd edition of the Nightfire Nationals presented by Bi-Mart, a key stop in the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage series.

Winning his sixth consecutive Firebird major event title, Bobby Cottrell stopped Kamaka Pocock in the AA/Funny Car final. The “Northwest Hitter” team delivered a 5.72-252.99 against a red-lighting “California Hustler."

In AA/Fuel Dragster, Tyler Hilton earned top honors at 5.73-257.38. Jim Murphy was runner-up at 5.82-232.23 in a good race.

After last winning the Nightfire Funny Car title in 1984, Johnny West returned to the winner’s circle with his “Plan A” Fuel Altered. He recorded a 6.15-233.03 to hold off the challenge of Jason Pettit, who crossed the stripe at 6.42-203.74.

The NHRA.tv Challenge 3-Night Bracketeer Series presented by Mirage Trailers officially crowned five overall champions. NHRA Wally statues were awarded to: Bracketeer Champ-Sean Shaffer, Pro-John Cozzette, Heavy-Dennis Beebe, Sled/Bike-Mathew Fredericks and Lucas Oil Top Fire-Ryan O’Connor. Additionally, Dustin Lee was victorious in the Pro Comp division.
