Pep Boys NHRA All-Star Callout

Top Fuel qualifying at the Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals presented by ProtectTheHarvest.com will have double importance for teams as, in addition to setting the fields for the 2022 NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series season opener, they will also be earning points towards qualifying for the Pep Boys NHRA Top Fuel All-Star Callout.

The special event, scheduled for Saturday of the Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals, will pit reigning Top Fuel world champ Steve Torrence and seven of the class’ top drivers against one another for the $80,000 winner’s share of a $130,000 purse.

The eight-car field will be set based on both adjusted 2021 season-ending totals and then qualifying points earned at the Winternationals and the NHRA Arizona Nationals.

Here are the current standings:

1Steve Torrence (Secured)3,000
2Brittany Force2,500
3Mike Salinas2,450
4Justin Ashely2,400
5Billy Torrence2,350
6Antron Brown2,300
7Leah Pruett2,250
8Clay Millican2,200
9Shawn Langdon2,150
10Doug Kalitta2,100

With Torrence already pre-seeded into the field, the remaining none drivers will battle for the seven available spots, earning points based on their final qualifying positions at the Winternationals and Arizona nationals using the following format:

Qualifying PositionPoints Qualifying PositionPoints
No. 1175 No. 9120
No. 2165 No. 10115
No. 3155 No. 11110
No. 4145 No. 12105
No. 5140 No. 13100
No. 6135 No. 1495
No. 7130 No. 1590
No. 8125 No. 1685

Once the field is set, the competitors will call out their first-round opponent. No. 1 in points gets the first opportunity to call out their competitor. No. 2 in points the get the second opportunity to call out their competitor. If No. 1 in selects No. 2 in points, then No. 3 gets second pick, etc.

The callouts will take place on Friday and all three eliminations rounds will be contested on Saturday. The first two rounds will also count towards qualifying for the national event; the final-round runs do not count towards qualifying.

The Pep Boys All-Star Callout for Funny Cars will take place on Sunday of the Dodge Power Brokers NHRA U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis and feature the top eight qualifying-points earners since the 2021 NHRA U.S. Nationals. The last event to earn points will be the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals or the last event before the 2022 Dodge Power Brokers NHRA U.S. Nationals in case of event postponements.
