PREVIEW
NHRA returns to National Trail Raceway for JEGS Speedweek July 14-17, featuring five full days of NHRA Sportsman Drag Racing. JEGS Speedweek hosts a doubleheader weekend with the JEGS NHRA SPORTSnationals specialty event followed by a Division 3 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, giving the country's best Sportsman racers twice as many chances to win and earn points.
The event kicks off Wednesday, July 14, with a track-operated open test 'n' tune. The schedule will then shift to the annual JEGS SPORTSnationals on Thursday and Friday, closing with the North Central Division Lucas Oil event Saturday and Sunday. [Full event schedule]
Thursday’s action will be highlighted by the new Vortech Fast Four Shootout in which the top two qualifiers from the first qualifying sessions of Top Sportsman and Top Dragster will run against each other in the second qualifying session for a $1,500 payday in each category as the champion of the Fast Four Shootouts.
NHRA and JEGS will offer coffee and donuts in staging lanes Thursday morning.
All Sportsman categories will be contested on Thursday, including Stock and Super Stock class eliminations, concluding with a time trial run for Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car. Official Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car qualifying kicks off at 6 p.m. Friday, under the lights.
Each of the eight champions crowned on Friday night at the JEGS SPORTSnationals will receive a special-edition copper NHRA Wally. If one of the previous season’s event winners successfully defend their 2021 titles, they will also claim the coveted JEGS Crown trophy. The JEGS Crown is a unique handcrafted trophy created by Dan Dreisbach of Naked Sculpture. Since 2005, the trophy has been claimed just once, by Pro Mod racer Mike Ashley.
2021 JEGS SPORTSnationals event winners in the hunt for the JEGS Crown trophy at National Trail Raceway: Pete D'Agnolo (Comp), Ricky Decker (Super Stock), T.C. Morris (Stock), Jeremy Mason (Super Comp), Darren Wood (Super Gas), Scott Weisend (Super Street), Jerry Albert (Top Sportsman), and Blake Peavler (Top Dragster).
