Former NHRA world champion Charlie Taylor died Saturday, April 4. His death was reported on Facebook by his younger brother, Jeff.

Charlie Taylor, a member of the NHRA Southeast Division Hall of Fame, won the NHRA Super Stock championship in 1981, the same year that his younger brother Jeff won the Stock crown.

The senior Taylor won five NHRA national events in Super Stock, from his first in Baton Rouge, La., in 1980 to his last, in Memphis in 1993. He and brother Jeff shared the winner circle at the NHRA Cajun Nationals in 1981 with respective wins and Charlie also won the NHRA Southern Nationals that year to boost his championship run.
