WATCH: Tommy Johnson Jr. drives Make-a-Wish Funny Car back to winner's circle at Route 66 NHRA Nationals
Tommy Johnson Jr. earned his first win since 2017 in fiery fashion, defeating Robert Hight at the Route 66 NHRA Nationals.
Tommy Johnson scored his first win since the last race of the 2017 season in fiery fashion at the Route 66 NHRA Nationals. He defeated Robert Hight, who he also beat to capture his last Wally, taking his Make-a-Wish Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat to the winner's circle at Route 66 Raceway.
It took more than 4 seconds for Johnson to get to the finish line, but he got there quicker than Hight, who smoked the tires just past half track. Johnson reached four final rounds in 2018 and didn't get the Wally in any of them -- now, that dry spell is over for the Iowa native.
