Rookie racer Johnny Pluchinco made the only run in the 6.3s, running a 6.364 at 220.01 in his first-ever run on a quarter-mile surface. He made a terrific run to 60-feet (.997), which paced his quick burst down the drag strip.
The eight-car ladder will be filled with 13 cars. The bump spot is currently set at 6.605 by Matt Giangrande. He’s keeping out former Pro Stock racer JR Carr, whose 6.619 is just .014-second away from bumping back into the field.
Brad Waddle and former Pro Stock racer Vincent Nobile got loose early in their trips down the track and coasted to 21.91 and 17.482 elapsed times, respectively.
The second session of Mountain Motor Pro Stock will get under way at 6:05 p.m. Eastern. You can catch that, along with the rest of qualifying from the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals, on NHRA.tv. The first TV broadcast of the weekend is set for 7:30 p.m. Eastern on FS1.
