For the second time this year, and the 21st time in his career, Steve Torrence will be the top qualifier in Top Fuel. Torrence's 3.760 from Friday held  for the top spot, but the 3.833 that he ran in the heat of the day on Saturday might have been an even more impressive run. Torrence will race Terry Totten in Sunday's opening round and should he win that race, he'll have a bye run into the semifinals due to the 14-car field in Topeka. Torrence is attempting to win his fifth-straight race.

Torrence's father, Billy, also grabbed two bonus points during Saturday's final session thanks to a 3.856. Brittany Force also claimed an extra point after driving her Advance Auto Parts dragster to a 3.925.
