Fan favorite Rick Steinke drove his four-door Chevelle to an 8.722 on Saturday to take a commanding lead in the special eight-car showcase featuring entries from Hot Rod magazine’s Drag Week. After three of four runs, Steinke has an average elapsed time of 8.696-seconds. Second place Scott Brown maintains a 9.015-second average for three runs after driving his ’53 Chevy to an 8.716. Lisa Fischer is also in the mix with a 9.058 average with her turbocharged Buick Grand National.

The Drag Week exhibition being held at zMax Dragway this weekend features eight diverse cars from the popular Street Race Small Block Power Adder class. Competitors will each make four runs and the driver with the average elapsed time closest to 8.50 will be declared the winner. Randall Reid was the early leader after driving his Mustang to an 8.51 on the first pass, but he’s run in the 8.4s on his next two runs, which is quicker than allowable under Drag Week rules. Hot Rod’s Drag Week is an annual event held each September that showcases the world’s quickest and fastest street legal drag race vehicles. Competitors make runs at four different dragstrips over a five day period and all vehicles must be driven from track to track over a predetermined route that totals nearly 1,000 miles of street driving.
