Atlanta champ Ron Capps collected his fifth straight win light with a 3.99, low e.t.of the round, against Jim Campbell and will take on points leader Robert Hight in round two.

The smooth VMP surface helped the Funny Cars on the hot surface as five of the other seven winners– including Hight, low qualifier John Force, Tommy Johnson Jr., Jonnie Lindberg, and Kalitta Motorsports teammates J.R. Todd, and Shawn Langdon, who will race one another in round two -- all ran in the 4.0s en route to victories.

The outlier was Jack Beckman, who outlasted Don Schumacher Racing teammate Matt Hagan in a 4.64 to 5.11 pedaling duel after their Dodge Chargers both broke traction early in the run.

You can find a complete recap of round one here.

Second-round pairings (lane choice first): John Force vs. Jonnie Lindberg; Shawn Langdon vs. J.R. Todd; Tommy Johnson Jr. vs. Jack Beckman; Ron Capps vs. Robert Hight
