The footing got a little tricky as the sun beat down on Summit Motorsports Park, where tire smoke was a common sight in round two.

Low qualifier Brittany Force smoked the tires in the middle of the track and pedaled her way to victory well ahead of Billy Torrence, who lit ‘em up right at the Tree. Right behind that pair, both Pat Dakin and Terry McMillen smoked their tires but the race was already over after T-Mac double-stepped the throttle and red-lighted.

Points leader Steve Torrence advanced easily over Doug Kalitta, who lost traction then backfired the blower at halftrack. Antron Brown got out of the gate ahead of Don Schumacher Racing teammate Leah Pritchett but a dropped cylinder right at the hit of the throttle slowed his Matco Tools dragster the remaining 999 feet, allowing Pritchett’s gold dragster to advance to the semifinals with a 3.82, low e.t of the round.

Semifinal pairings (lane choice first): Steve Torrence vs. Brittany Force; Leah Pritchett vs. Pat Dakin
