The NAPA Brakes Funny Car team dropped a hammer on the competition in the first round of qualifying at the Route 66 NHRA Nationals. Ron Capps drove his Rahn Tobler-tuned Dodge Charger // SRT Hellcat to a 3.894, nearly a tenth quicker than No. 8 qualifier Jeff Arend. Arend, driving Jim Head’s Funny Car while Swedish driver Jonnie Lindberg takes the weekend off, wrestled the Ford Mustang to a 3.895-second pass. That’s a hundredth quicker than Shawn Langdon, who wrapped up the 3-second crew in Joliet.

Blake Alexander is on the bump spot at Route 66 Raceway with a 4.159. That’s staggering as all 18 Funny Cars that made passes got to the 1,000-foot mark quicker than 4.2 seconds. Bob Bode (4.159) and Dale Creasy Jr. (4.167) are currently on the outside looking in after making good, not great passes.
