Bourgeois, Labbous lead winners at Silver Dollar

In the final results from Silver Dollar Raceway and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, former Lucas Oil World Champion Craig Bourgeois and reigning Super Gas World Champion John Labbous led the list of winners in the winner’s circle celebration.

REYNOLDS, Ga. – In the final results from Silver Dollar Raceway and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, former Lucas Oil World Champion Craig Bourgeois and reigning Super Gas World Champion John Labbous led the list of winners in the winner’s circle celebration.
 
Bourgeois qualified No. 1 then posted the victory over Jim Kimbrough in Comp Eliminator. Bourgeois was out first then pulled away to a 6.890 second lap at 180.57 mph to Kimbrough’s 7.379, 177.79 out of the No. 3 spot.
 
Labbous used a .004 second reaction time to jump out in front of Rusty Cook in a battle of Corvettes. Labbous went 9.943, 159.99 in his ’63 to oust Cook and his ’99 Corvette at 9.956, 154.32.
 
Super Stock saw a pair of hitters face off in the final as Mike Crutchfield and Jimmy Hidalgo went to battle. Hidalgo was out first but Crutchfield ran him down at 9.156, 135.81 to Hidalgo’s 10.100, 132.91.
 
The Super Comp final saw a great race as Tyler Caheely, Rock Spring, Ga., and Raymond Miller, Spring City, Tenn., left the line together with .004 and .007 second reaction times respectively. Caheely was a tick better at the top end tripping the clocks at 8.921, 173.21 to Miller’s 8.926, 167.45.
 
Super Street was also close at the start with Jacob Rutledge, Powder Springs, Ga., taking a .001 second lead (.009 to .010) over Don Popham, Upatoi, Ga., but Popham was better at the strip running 10.963, 109.44 in his ’98 Mustang. Rutledge came in at 11.204, 121.11.
 
In the Stotts Ford Top Sportsman class it was Dylan Stott hoisting the NHRA Wally trophy. His ’18 Mustang went 7.015 at 156.86 mph for the win. Bruce Duncan was right with him off the start in his ’95 Camaro but had problems down track and had to shut it off.
 
Rounding out the winners in the Lucas Series were Gale Pinkston in a battle of old Camaro vs new Camaro in Stock and Scott Gibson won in the Hickory Enclosed Trailer Top Dragster over Greg Gallagher . The Shelbyville, Tenn., racer Pinkston went 11.175 at 114.95 for the win over Daniel Young, Palm Harbor, Fla., and Gibson raced to a 7.297, 183.27 mph pass after Gallagher fouled at the start with a red light.
 
The NHRA Summit Jr. Drag Racing league was also in action this weekend with Aaron Kennedy, Logan Westmoreland and Autumn Greene taking the wins. Kennedy, Winder, Ga., won the Novice class over Alyssa Rabon, Westmoreland the Intermediate class against Hayden Wallace and Greene went start to finish in the Advanced class to beat Ozell Brown.

REYNOLDS, Ga. - Silver Dollar Raceway host the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Southeast Division on Sept.  27-29. The event is one of 44 scheduled across the country where drivers in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series earn points leading to divisional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. Categories include Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division’s Stott’s Ford Top Sportsman Series and Hickory Enclosed Trailer Sales Top Dragster Series will also be in competition.

Gates at Silver Dollar Raceway open at 8 a.m. each day. Hickory Enclosed Top Dragster & Stott’s Ford Top Sportsman qualifies Friday at 1, 3 and 6 p.m. with Elimination rounds beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

Tickets for Silver Dollar Raceway are $20 each day. Children 12 and under are admitted free with a paid adult.
