Four of the five competitors in contention for this year's Auto Club Road to the Future Award that recognizes NHRA's top rookie in the Pro classes took part on the NHRA Summernationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park, but none made any big moves with all four losing in the opening round. Funny Car's Jonnie Lindberg did record a personal-best qualifying position, notching his first top-half start at No. 8. Top Fuel's Troy Coughlin Jr., Pro Stock sensation Tanner Gray, and Pro Stock Motorcycle rider Joey Gladstone also competed in Englishtown, while Top Fuel runner Shawn Reed elected to sit the event out.
