Rookie Report Card after Denver
Four of the five rookie candidates eligible for the 2017 Auto Club Road to the Future Award were in competition during the Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals at Bandimere Speedway, race 14 of 24 (seven of 16 for Pro Stock Motorcycle) on the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series schedule. Though a couple were able to collect round-wins, overall, the rookie class had a relatively quiet event. Nitro Funny Car newcomer Jonnie Lindberg and Pro Stock Motorcycle rider Joey Gladstone had the best outings, both qualifying in the top half and advancing out of the first round. Top Fuel racer Troy Coughlin Jr. and Pro Stock's Tanner Gray each exited in the opening round. Top Fuel driver Shawn Reed was not in competition.
