The 2017 season hasn’t yet entered the Countdown to the Championship phase, but two-time NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle world champion Matt Smith is already working on 2018 after he found out that his partnership with Polaris Industries will continue after this season.

“It has been a very successful three years,” said Smith. “We have better parts and better pieces now than we have ever had and it’s time to take the next steps and do some R&D to make us an even better team.”
Polaris Industries announced in January that they were winding down the Victory Motorcycles brand that Matt Smith Racing had represented in both 2015 and 2016. Polaris Industries valued the partnership with Matt Smith Racing and continued to support the team throughout 2017.

“I am very thankful to the people at Polaris for all of their support,” Smith said. “It has allowed both me and my wife to continue to do what we love and compete in the highest caliber of drag racing.”

Smith is having a very successful 2017 season. With two No. 1 qualifying positions, three final-round appearances, and currently ranked fifth in points, this team is expecting continued success as they compete for the 2017 Mello Yello Pro Stock Motorcycle championship. Wife Angie is also currently qualified for the Countdown to the Championship postseason. They are the only husband and wife team racing in the NHRA,

“Both Angie and I see ourselves as liaisons of our sponsors,” Smith said. “We pride ourselves on representing them to the best of our ability and are determined to give the best return on investment that we can. Our team success is our sponsors' success.”
