NHRA season to remember will have its dramatic conclusion at the Auto Club NHRA Finals
A season of record-setting excitement will come to a dramatic conclusion at the Auto Club NHRA Finals, Nov. 10-13, at historic Auto Club Raceway in Pomona, Calif., the birthplace of NHRA Drag Racing.
All four pro classes in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series — Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle — will crown the 2016 World Champions in a last-race showdown to cap a spectacular season of on-track performances for the fastest motorsport on the planet.
Antron Brown secured his third NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series Top Fuel world championship Sunday at the NHRA Toyota Nationals but the battles in Funny Car, Pro Stock, and Pro Stock Motorcycle will still be on the line in Pomona.
Ron Capps holds the points lead in Funny Car over Matt Hagan, who is, 86 points back of Capps. In Pro Stock, Lass Vegas winner Shane Gray moved to third in points just 75 back of Greg Anderson , who is just 19 points behind points leader Jason Line. Jerry Savoie rode his Savoie’s Alligator Farm Suzuki past Andrew Hines in the Pro Stock Motorcycle final round for his second win of the season is is now just three points out of the points lead behind Harley-Davidson teammates Hines and Eddie Krawiec, who are tied for the top spot.
Shawn Langdon (Top Fuel), Matt Hagan (Funny Car), Allen Johnson (Pro Stock) and Krawiec (Pro Stock Motorcycle) were last year’s winners of the season-ending event.
Along with the exciting on-track action, the Auto Club NHRA Finals is the completion of the full-year celebration of 50 years of Funny Car. NHRA’s Hot Rod Junction will have displays of current Funny Cars along with legendary Cacklefest cars, NHRA Heritage Champions, Jr. Dragsters and the coolest hot rods in Southern California.
Kids 12 & under can see it all for free with a general admission ticket, while all students can save 50 percent on general admission at the gate with a student ID.
Tickets in an exclusive tower suite are available for purchase Friday through Sunday where fans will meet current Funny Car stars who will sign autographs in the suite each day. The suite ticket includes food & non-alcoholic beverages.
Pre-race activities on Sunday, Nov. 13, include a morning track walk and driver introductions where fans can see all the stars up close. NHRA also will have a skydiver drop on the track before the first of four elimination rounds to determine the champions. After the race, fans can join the Winners’ Circle when the championship drivers are interviewed live on FOX Sports 1.
NHRA events also have the most interactive midway in motorsports with the Nitro Alley, which includes simulators, manufacturer displays, driver autograph sessions a concessions stands with food and drink options for everyone.
