The Funny Car class has undergone a performance renaissance in the last year, making unheard-of passes thanks in no small part to the installation of swept-back exhaust headers.
With each of the eight individual exhaust pipes capable of producing 600-800 pounds of downforce, teams dicovered that by laying the pipes back further they could obtain more forward thrust and better performance, albeit at the cost of some downforce.
