Crew Chief Confidential: Aaron Brooks
Aaron Brooks is one of the younger crew chiefs in the sport after quickly working up the ranks as a crewmember for NHRA legends Don "the Snake" Prudhomme and Kenny Bernstein to the assistant crew chief position under Mike Neff on the Oakley Funny Car team that won the 2005 championship with driver Gary Scelzi. Brooks took the helm as a Funny Car crew chief at Gotham City Racing, Alan Johnson Racing, and R2B2 Racing before switching to the Top Fuel class in 2012.
Brooks and assistant crew chief Rod Centorbi found a home at Morgan Lucas Racing, where they have tuned teammates Morgan Lucas and Richie Crampton to a total of 15 wins. Crampton has been the driver of the Lucas Oil dragster since the 2014 season, and Lucas has since wheeled the Lucas Oil Racing TV dragster on a seven-race schedule. Brooks tuned each driver to victory at the prestigious Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals over the past two seasons. In addition to tuning, Brooks is a talented fabricator who helps build the team's dragster chassis in-house alongside Jason "Squig" Rush and Crampton.
