Best of Phoenix
After a strong start to the 2016 season in Pomona, the drivers in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series served up another action-packed event in Phoenix, where fans were treated to just the second all-female Top Fuel final, a first-time winner in that class and much more. That all-female final pitted Leah Pritchett against Brittany Force in a match where there was a guaranteed first-time winner. Pritchett came out on top, using a better reaction time to win a slight 3.775 to 3.774 holeshot.
In Funny Car, Tim Wilkerson turned into a giant killer, stopping No. 1 qualifier and points leader Ron Capps and a pair of John Force Racing Cars to notch his first win at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park. Wilkerson's victory capped a great day of racing that, among other things, featured new track e.t. and speed records by Robert Hight.
KB Racing once again dominated the Pro Stock class, locking up the top three spots in qualifying -- including Bo Butner notching his first No. 1 start -- taking up three of the four semifinal slots, and once again putting a car in the winner's circle. This time, Jason Line took home the Wally after defeating Chris McGaha in the final.
