Aerospace Components NHRA Excellence in Engineering: Seattle 2016
BRIAN OGLESBEE’S HOME-BUILT ’55 CHEVY SUPER STREETER
With the exception of the hood scoop, Brian Oglesbee’s classic Chevy Bel Air looks like it could be cruising burger joints in the 1950s instead of tearing down the dragstrip, but there’s more beneath the powder blue and white paint than meets the eye, which is one of the reasons why it was selected as the winner of the Aerospace Components NHRA Excellence in Engineering at the Protect The Harvest NHRA Northwest Nationals in Seattle.
Oglesbee and his father built the car, which features a custom-bent roll cage and aluminum tinwork, and along with his uncle, they also applied the paint.
The car was purposely built for easy between-rounds maintenance with a hinged fiberglass deck lid (using Chevy Cobalt hinges) and a lightweight fiberglass front end that nonetheless still retains the factory grille, trim, and lights. The 584-cid Chevy engine breathes via a set of custom-built stainless-steel headers for stock frame.
