2017 Winternationals, Gatornationals tickets now on sale
Tickets for two of NHRA’s most tradition-rich events, the season-opening Circle K NHRA Winternationals and the Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals, are now available for purchase.
The 57th annual Circle K NHRA Winternationals, the season-opening event of the 2017 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, will be contested Feb. 9-12 at historic Auto Club Raceway at Pomona. The event will be fans’ first opportunity to see the new cars and paint schemes as well as meet the drivers who will be racing at speeds of more than 330 mph in an attempt to add their names to the NHRA record book’s list of NHRA Winternationals victors. A win at the opening event can mean great momentum for drivers as they chase NHRA Mello Yello world championship glory during the 24-event season that crisscrosses the United States.
Steve Torrence, who finished third in the Top Fuel points standings in 2016, Ron Capps, the reigning Funny Car world champion, and Greg Anderson, who in 2016 was second in Pro Stock to teammate Jason Line, are the defending winners of the event, which will be televised on FS1.
The 48th annual Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals, the NHRA East Coast opener, will be contested March 16-19 at Gainesville Raceway in Gainesville, Fla. While both events will feature heart-pounding competition in three of NHRA’s professional categories: the 10,000-horsepower, nitro-fueled Top Fuel dragster and Funny Car classes, along with the 200-mph Pro Stock category, the Gatornationals also serves as the season opener for the NHRA Mello Yello Series Pro Stock Motorcycle category and the J&A Service Pro Mod category.
Last year at the event, Brittany Force, who had a career-best Top Fuel season in 2016, 2009 Funny Car champion Robert Hight, Greg Anderson, who last season was second in Pro Stock, and Eddie Krawiec, who narrowly missed winning his fourth Pro Stock Motorcycle championship in 2016, collected victories at the event, which will be televised on FS1.
Many more stars of the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series will join the defending event winners, including three-time and reigning Top Fuel world champ Antron Brown, 16-time Funny Car world champion John Force, Doug Kalitta, who finished last season second in Top Fuel, Tommy Johnson, Jr., who had a career-best second place Funny Car finish in 2016, and Pro Stock world champion Jason Line.
Both events also will feature thrilling competition in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, where the future stars of the sport earn their racing stripes.
