NHRA National Dragster photographer Jerry Foss was all over Gainesville Raceway Sunday as the Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals raced to its conclusion.

There is parity throughout almost every professional class in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing series but occasionally, some racers are capable of dominant performances. Matt Smith is one of those racers and his latest victory at the Amalie Motor Oil Gatornationals will go down as one of his most impressive performances.

With the exception of Top Alcohol Funny Car, which was won by reigning world champion Sean Bellemeur, rain claimed the final rounds of Lucas Oil Sportsman racing, including the the SAMTech.edu Factory Stock Showdown, at Gainesville Raceway.

Other than a semifinal finish in Phoenix, Alex Laughlin hasn’t had much to cheer about this season in Pro Stock but he was able to put the slow start behind him in Gainesville by beating Aaron Stanfield in a final round match-up between Elite Performance teammates.

It took two race cars to do it, but Ron Capps extended the Don Schumacher Racing win streak in the Funny Car class to ten races following his final round win over Tim Wilkerson at the Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals.

News and notes from the final day of eliminations at the 51st annual Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals at historic Gainesville Raceway.

For the first time in his career, Ryan Oehler is in contention for the Mello Yello Pro Stock Motorcycle championship and he’s determined to do everything possible to make that a reality. That mentality helps explain why Oeher and his crew would load their spare bike into the back of a pick up truck on Saturday night and make a 220 mile round trip drive to Orlando Speed World Dragway just to break in a couple of Mickey Thompson tires.

That certainly applies to Steve Matusek and Kris Thorne, who are both racing this weekend in Gainesville less than three weeks after destroying race cars in separate crashes at the Denso Spark Plugs NHRA U.S. Nationals.

Mike Bucher and Ray Drew scored big wins to help wrap up the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series North Central Division doubleheader event at World Wide Technology Raceway.

Six months after originally scheduled, the Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals will take place at historic Gainesville Raceway with Mello Yello Drag Racing series champions crowned in Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock, and Pro Stock Motorcycle. Also on the docket is the E3 Pro Mod series, SAM Tech.edu Factory Stock Showdown, Mickey Thompson Top Fuel Harley series, and a full compliment of Lucas Oil Drag Racing series sportsman action.
