At the 2020 Denso Spark Plugs NHRA U.S. Nationals, Funny Car competitors (and old friends) Bob Tasca III and Tony Pedregon match raced electric and supercharged V8 Ford Mustang Cobra Jets. The all-electric Cobra Jet 1400 (which actually makes more than 1,500 hp) squared off against its equally powerful supercharged 5.2L Coyote V8 twin and ran the quarter mile at 8.680 seconds at 162.84 mph. After two rounds of racing with a win by Pedregon in the gas car and a win by Tasca in the electric (when Pedregon had a red-light start), their third round of racing in Indy was postponed due to a weather delay.
