The intensity of the NHRA Nevada Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway was set to an all-time high. There was so much to take in, our heads were spinning – but here are five things we learned at the second-to-last race of an extraordinary season.

Mike Castellana clinched his first career world championship in the FuelTech NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by Type A Motorsports at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and then finished off his magical weekend with the victory as part of the weekend’s NHRA Nevada Nationals.

Gaige Herrera and Erica Enders solidified their championship leads in Pro Stock Motorcycle and Pro Stock, respectively, while Mike Salinas and Robert Hight pulled themselves into the nitro title fights on a dramatic Sunday at the NHRA Nevada Nationals, the second-to-last event of the 2023 NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series.

Billy Boyko (Super Pro), Mike LaRose (Pro), Jake Biscay (Sportsman), Patrick Roetto (Motorcycle), and Josh Rogers (Street Legal EV) won Summit Racing Series national championships in the final showdown at the NHRA Nevada Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Heading into the second-to-last raceday of the 2023 NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series season, just eight win lights remain to be claimed in each class and a champion could be crowned before the day is over.

During the first round of NHRA Pro Mod eliminations at the NHRA Nevada Nationals, incoming points leader Kris Thorne’s car drifted towards the centerline before turning sharply left and hitting the wall before coming to a stop. Kyle Koretsky displaced Friday’s Pro Stock leader on Saturday of the NHRA Nevada Nationals while Mike Salinas (Top Fuel), Robert Hight (Funny Car), and Gaige Herrera (Pro Stock Motorcycle) continued to lead their fields into Sunday’s dramatic final eliminations at the season’s penultimate event.

Jeg Coughlin Jr. began taking the world of Pro Stock by storm in 1998, and the Rookie of the Year went on to blaze through season after season as a top contender. Now a five-time champion with 65 Pro Stock trophies, Coughlin has returned to action in Las Vegas and is showing that he hasn't lost his touch.
