John Force leaves Richmond hospital for brain injury rehab center
NHRA Funny Car legend John Force was released Tuesday from VCU Medical Center and boarded an AirMed ambulance for a flight to a neurological rehab center at which treatment for the traumatic brain injury (TBI) he suffered in his June 23 accident will continue.
The departure from the facility where he has been hospitalized since his crash at the PlayNHRA Virginia Nationals was considered by family members to be a major step forward in the recovery process.
According to a statement by the team, Force still faces a long and difficult recovery and continues to deal with symptoms from the TBI. Force has been visited regularly by family and enjoyed the company of grandsons Jacob and Noah Hood. He also celebrated daughter Brittany’s birthday on July 7.
Family members also have said that no timetable had been established for the length of Force’s stay at the new facility, which was selected because of its success in treating other race-car drivers with similar issues.
