Tickets are now on sale for the 2022 Virginia NHRA Nationals, which takes place May 13-15 at Virginia Motorsports Park. It is the seventh race of the 2022 NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series season and will be the NHRA’s first trip to the fan-favorite facility near Richmond since 2019.

NHRA returned to Virginia Motorsports Park in 2018 and 2019 after not racing at the track since 2009, drawing huge crowds that were eager to take in the thrilling action of 11,000-horsepower, 330-mph NHRA drag racing. The 2022 event will be broadcast on Fox Sports 1 (FS1) and after a two-year absence in Virginia, anticipation is high as racers can once again showcase their skills on one of the top racing surfaces on the NHRA circuit.

“We’re very excited to return to Virginia Motorsports Park for the first time since 2019 and put on a memorable show in a front of a huge fanbase that is truly passionate about their drag racing,” said Glen Cromwell, NHRA President. “It was a huge thrill to come back to the first-class facility in 2018 and 2019 and see the amazing turnout, and we know the Virginia NHRA Nationals has the makings of another incredible event during the 2022 season.”

Steve Torrence (Top Fuel), Ron Capps (Funny Car) and Andrew Hines (Pro Stock Motorcycle) were winners of the 2019 event. Joining the three NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series professional classes in Virginia will be the popular NHRA Pro Mod Series, the Factory Stock Showdown and Top Fuel Harley. The Mountain Motor Pro Stock class will also make the first of four appearances in 2022, bringing their exciting and powerful 800-plus cubic-inch engines to Virginia Motorsports Park.

Torrence, the reigning four-time world champ in Top Fuel, has dominated since NHRA returned to Virginia Motorsports Park, winning in both 2018 and 2019. He’ll be pushed this year by the likes of 2007 event winner Doug Kalitta, Antron Brown, and Tony Schumacher, who is returning to full-time racing in 2022. John Force’s four victories leads all Funny Car drivers, though 2019 winner Capps has plenty of momentum after claiming his second world championship in 2021.

In Pro Stock Motorcycle, Hines is the only current rider with a victory at the facility, though Matt Smith, who won his fifth world title in 2021, will look to change that in 2022. Action at the Virginia NHRA Nationals will include qualifying on Friday and Saturday, and eliminations on Sunday as the stars of the sport will look to grab an early-season Wally and gain momentum towards the Countdown and a world championship. The race will also count toward the Funny Car All-Star Shootout that takes place over Labor Day Weekend at the U.S. Nationals in Indy.

New for the 2022 season is a unique VIP section which will be located in the grandstand section closest to the starting line for premium viewpoints of all the action. This new package also includes amenities like inside-the-gate platinum parking, tower rooftop access, a custom VIP card and lanyard to commemorate the day along with a premium gift from the NHRA. VIP section tickets are sold individually by day or at a discounted weekend package price with price points starting at only $109.
